The Lost Suitcase Band
Saturday May 9th
$10 cover at the door
The Lost Suitcase Band is a roots/folk/Americana band from Kansas City. We believe a good song is all about storytelling. Our songs are a mix of originals and covers that entertain, amuse, and gently encourage reflection. They tell stories about finding love, losing love, family, leaving home, perseverance, faith and hope, and feeling the freedom that comes with embracing change or wandering down a dusty trail through the Flint Hills on a warm sunny day. The band formed in 2025. It includes three members of the same family (Mom, Dad, and son, formerly part of Electric Prairie), as well as four other accomplished performers: Paul Wenske, guitar and vocals; Nancy Meis, mandolin and vocals; Chris Wenske, guitar and vocals; Tristan Wall, banjo and suitcase drum; Hannah Cooper, fiddle; Rick Hearron, stand-up bass; and Meg Rivers, vocals. The band chose its name after it’s suitcase drum was stolen the night before its first gig. Fortunately, band members found another old suitcase with the right look and sound, after scouring vintage stores, in time for the show.

The Play Dead
Friday June 19th
Play Dead is composed of veterans from the Lawrence, KS., (LFK) music scene with a very diverse background - Jazz, Afro-beat, Alt-Country, Blues, Singer-Songwriter - to deliver a unique presentation of the music of the Grateful Dead. The band does not do a theater re-creation of the sound or shows of the Dead - there are plenty of fantastic bands that already do just that. Play Dead prefers to let the individual voices shine, putting their own twist on the catalog of Jerry Garcia and his cohorts “PlayDead embody the spirit of the Grateful Dead, less with theater and imitation, more with improvisation and passionate risk-taking, inviting the listener to hear the music anew.”
